(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - The San Diego Woman's Club is having a luncheon to support the Allied Gardens Community Council in raising funds to purchase a commemorative Park bench which will be placed in the Allied Gardens Community Park in honor of all the community support Edith gave to our Community. As you may recall our dear Edith (Edith Dabbs) passed away on December 1, 2009.
The luncheon is planned for Friday, March 26, 2010 and will be held at the San Diego Woman's Club located at 2557 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103. Plan to be there at 11:30 and lunch will be served at noon. Please make checks payable to SDWC in the amount of $25. You can either drop off your payment at Travel Planners at 5152 Waring Road, in Allied Gardens, or, mail your check to the Woman's Club address mentioned above.
The deadline to reserve a seat for the luncheon is March 23, 2010, so don't miss out and send your donation right away. Any extra funds raised will go to the Edith Dabbs Scholarship Fund. If you can't make the luncheon and just want to make a donation that's just fine also.
Edith was a member of the Parliamentary Club, Allied Gardens Park & Recreation Department, PTA at Grantville and Lewis Schools, the San Diego Zoo, Eastern Star, and the President of her Church Woman's group. She worked with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Allied Gardens.
Edith was also a founding member of the Civic Association which later became the Allied Gardens Community Council. Edith remained with the Council all these years. She also was a member of the San Diego Woman's Club for 53 years serving as president for several terms as well as serving in leadership for the General Federation. The list of her achievements is truly endless. Recently, she was inducted to the San Diego Woman's Hall of Fame.
The Allied Gardens Community Council appreciates the time and assistance given to help raise money for the bench and sincerely thanks the San Diego Woman's Club. If you have further questions, call the Woman's Club at (619) 234-0510.
