Dailard Elementary School
On January 16
th, Dailard held our first annual Family Craft Night hosted by our DADS (Dads Assisting Dailard Students). Students had the opportunity to select from one of six items to build with their family. The building of the items took place in the Multipurpose Room with the fishing touches done at home. This evening was a huge success with over 140 crafts being built by our Dailard families. The Dailard PTF has cut back to sponsoring only two fundraisers for the year – the Jog-A-Thon and Bella Notte (Beautiful Night) Dinner and Auction. Many parents feel that it has been refreshing not having to sell items every month or open up our wallets to unwanted products.
Bella Notte is our annual Dinner and Auction scheduled for Saturday, April 12th. Look for information requesting item donations for the auction to be sent home with your student. A successful auction is contingent on the types of items donated. Please take some time to investigate what items you or your place of work may be willing to donate. Your support of our two fundraisers is truly appreciated.
Many important items were discussed during the coffee talk with our principal, Mr. Erpelding. Dailard is always looking for ways to be proactive in our safety approach. One way you can support this is through your driving habits. Please slow down when you are within a mile of the school. Pay extra attention and follow the rules of the posted signs. Remember, no U-Turns in front of the school. Also, please do not call/wave your child across the street (in front of Dailard) or ask them to make their way through the cars of the afternoon pickup program. Let’s all slow down and take the few extra minutes to exit the school safely. Let’s not be in a hurry.
We also spoke about the health of our students and discussed how we are interested in providing Purell (or its equivalent) stations as students enter the lunch area to help sanitize their hands prior to eating. It would be great if parents are willing to donate large pump-type hand sanitizer and we will collect some data to see if this helps our students stay healthy. Donations can be made to the office. The following link may provide helpful information (from the CDC) on a type of virus our students have been coming into contact with:

Our program is again gaining strength with the addition of Mr. Don Truesdail, our Instrumental Music Teacher for 4th and 5th grade. Mr. Truesdail is from Upstate New York. He received his Masters in Music Performance at the State University in Binghamton in 2006. He plays classical double bass. Mr. Truesdail spent half of a year in Russia studying the language and teaching English. He is recently married and truly enjoys his move to San Diego. Please welcome him as a great addition to the Dailard community.
