(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The annual school auction sponsored by our Benchley-Weinberger Foundation was once again a huge success. There were many wonderful and innovative classroom baskets on the silent auction tables, so there was a lot of good-natured competition going on for the marvelous baskets. The live auction featured such items as "Principal for a Day and lunch with our Principal Marian Jacobs," "Sleepover at our Library with our librarian, Terri Knight," "Padre game with Second Grade Teacher Janet Schroeder," "Cookies and Bedtime Stories with Kindergarten Teacher Sue Sward," "Ham Dinner catered to your home by Third Grade Teacher Fran Harvey," and many, many more wonderful auction items. All the money raised will be applied to programs and/or equipment needed at Benchley-Weinberger. Our special thanks go to Drew Smith, foundation president, Marg Stark, auction chairperson and all the other great Foundation parents who worked so hard.
Our Kindergarten Registration was held on Wednesday, March 12th. Lots of parents registered their children. There is still time to register at Benchley-Weinberger. Another registration will be held on April 10 from 9am to 12pm. The registration follows our monthly Magnet Visitation presentation and tour also being held on April 10 starting at 8:30. The San Diego Opera headed by Kelly Evans is on campus and is working hard with all our wonderful Benchley-Weinberger actors. The performances for "Rumpelstiltskin" will begin on Tuesday, April 1 and will end on Thursday April 3 with a special evening performance on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:30 at the Benchley-Weinberger auditorium. The students always put on a dynamite performance for parents and guests.
