Re: Building Law Enforcement/ Community Partnerships in Problem Solving Workshop

Dear Editor:
Eastern Division recently held a problem-solving workshop on June 13, 2009, "Building Law Enforcement/ Community Partnerships in Problem Solving."

This workshop was designed to provide community members with the background information necessary to implement a problem solving effort within their community.

The workshop focused on Community Policing, crime prevention, and how to analyze a problem. The attendees heard from panelists: Fred Zuckerman from the City of San Diego's Neighborhood Nuisance Program, Paige Hazard, who is a Deputy City Attorney from the Neighborhood Prosecution Unit and Ted Parker, who is a crime prevention specialist.

After classroom sessions the groups participated in training exercises focused on common community issues such as: Nuisance Neighbors, Car break-ins and Oversized Vehicles. Participants included area residents, business owners, property managers, and security professionals.  In addition to panelists, each group worked with a San Diego Police Officer who answered questions and provided their expertise specific to their training exercise.

This workshop was the first of its kind and on behalf of Eastern Division, the participation of the community was appreciated.
Officer Christina Burhans
