Play 4 the Cure is a Nationally recognized Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Awareness event. Local High School Patrick Henry has the honor of being the only school west of the Mississippi signed up to host a game. The Patrick Henry High School Girls Field Hockey teams will be playing against Mira Mesa High School at Patrick Henry High School on Tuesday, October 13th at 5:00 PM (Varsity) and 6:15 PM (Junior Varsity.)
The Patrick Henry Girls Field Hockey Team will be wearing pink and playing their favorite game to honor both survivors and victims of breast cancer. While scoring points against the other team is always the goal, this game will be played with the primary importance of raising awareness and money in the battle to find a cure for breast cancer.
On Tuesday, the teams’ players will wear and pass out pink beads to their student body peers throughout the school day. As the necklaces are shared, so too will be personal stories of the commonality of powerful battles won and lost against the devastating disease of breast cancer.
During the field hockey games, patrons will be offered the opportunity to honor loved ones affected by breast cancer by sponsoring personalized “Pink Ribbons," which will be displayed in the seating area of the stadium. The iconic breast cancer awareness color, pink, will also be available for consumption at the stadium in the forms of pink lemonade, pink cookies, and many other pink treats. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Awareness charity.
Special guests in attendance to show their support will be members of the United States Men’s and Women’s Olympic Field Hockey Teams, who will also do a meet and greet session with the players.
As the National spotlight shines during October on breast cancer awareness, so too will the lights of the local Patrick Henry High School stadium shine on the Girls Field Hockey Teams. In a winning combination of athletics and humanitarianism the girls will make a difference as they, Play 4 the Cure, in the battle against breast cancer.
