(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - The Patrick Henry Boys Cross Country team won their second straight CIF Championship on Saturday, November 23 at Morley Field. The boys' were crowned Division 2 champs with a team score of 73 points (you add up the finish place of your top 5 runners for your team score).
The Cross Country team is headed by coach Andrew Myette, last years' coach of the year, and co-coach Tom Sweet and assistant coach Jim "The Guru" Maxwell. The team is anchored by one of the best 1-2 runner combinations in the State in Senior Kellen Blumberg and Junior Ryan Urie. The redheaded duo of Blumberg and Urie finished first and second respectively in the 3.04-mile race with Blumberg coming in with a winning time of 16.11.
Senior Eddie Ramos' outstanding 6th place finish was a key to the team's first place finish. He was followed by Senior Nick Tammadge who ran an individual PR (17.16) on the course to finish 20th. The team scoring was completed when Junior Ted Breslow crossed the finish line in 44th place with a time of 17.57. The next two Patrick Henry runners to cross the line were Sophomore Adam O'Regan in 47th place and Junior David Watson in 63rd place. The race had over 22 teams and 139 individuals competing for the chance to earn the Championship title.
The boys' team then traveled to Woodward Park in Fresno on November 29 to compete in the State Championship. At the State meet, the boys ran to an exciting 7th place team finish in the Division II race and just missed out on 4th place by 9 points. The team was led by Ryan Urie and Kellen Blumberg's 7th and 8th place finishes respectively (out of 200), earning them both First Team All-State honors.
