(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) -  The Lake Murray Playground Project hosted a fundraising kick-off event at the Lake Murray Community Park on Saturday Dec 5, 2009.  The celebration included a performance by "Hullabaloo", games, crafts, free food, and the chance to explore a City of San Diego fire truck. Sponsoring the event were Keil's Food Stores, Windmill Farms, The Trails Neighborhood Eatery and the Lake Murray Kiwanis Foundation.  The children's arts, crafts and games were graciously provided by San Carlos United Methodist and Kindercare.

The Lake Murray Playground Project (LMPP) is an effort by residents and community leaders who have watched the deterioration of the playground at Lake Murray Community Park. Given the current economic climate and the city's budget constraints, local volunteers have taken on the task of funding, designing, and building the playground with the city's consent.

The conceptual design for the playground unveiled at Saturday's event showcases how the needs of the neighborhood are being considered. The proposed playground features a neutral color scheme, to complement the natural beauty of the Lake Murray area, and includes climbing components that mimic the natural rock in the region. The play structures include swings, slides, shade elements, educational and interactive play. One proposed slide is even designed to meet the needs of several neighborhood children with cochlear implants.

Our next event is just around the corner.  Please join us for dinner at The Trails Neighborhood Eatery (located in the San Carlos Hardware shopping Center on Jackson Drive) on Saturday January 16, 2009. The Trails Neighborhood Eatery will donate 10% of total dinner sales to the Lake Murray Playground Project.
