Santa and Mrs. Claus welcome the community to the annual Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot.
(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - The Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot is open for business. This will mark the 22nd year that the Kiwanis Club of Grantville-Allied Gardens has sold Christmas trees in our community as a fund raising project. The first year of operation the Kiwanis ordered 110 trees and were quite worried about their ability to sell that many. Sales kept growing and last year, two days before Christmas, the last tree was sold - 1269 trees sold!
The Kiwanis are back again this year at the corner of Zion and Glenroy, across the street from the Benjamin Library in the community of Allied Gardens. As always there is a large selection of trees to choose from; Nobles, Douglas Firs, Fraziers, Grand Firs, and Scotch Pines. Trees range in size from 10 feet tall down to table toppers and Charlie Browns. For those who are looking for that special large tree for the Holidays, come early because they sell out fast. Bring the family and let the kids enjoy the pleasures of picking their own special tree. Also, bring your camera for some special Christmas pictures for the family album.
All proceeds from tree sales are returned to the community in the form of community projects and youth programs. The 50 plus members of GAG Kiwanis are strictly volunteers as are the members of our sponsored youth programs, Circle K, Key Club and Builders Club who help out on busy weekend days. If you would like to join us in serving our community, please join us for breakfast. We meet every Thursday morning, 7:00, at the Allied Gardens Community Center. You will enjoy our meetings and you can become part of a great community service club.
Listed below are examples of the tireless work and love the Kiwanis give to the community at large.: Breakfast with Santa for special needs children, Easter Egg Hunt, SpringFest; Miracle Mile of Quarters, Toy Box at Kaiser Hospital for children with cancer, sponsorship of local Cub Pack 928, Student of the Month awards for students from Patrick Henry, Lewis Middle School and Hearst Elementary; Back to school cook-out for students, faculty, and parents at Lewis Middle School, luncheon for fifth grade graduation class at Foster Elementary, Flag display on Waring Road on national holidays, Maintain flagpole at Waring and Zion; sponsorship of youth service clubs at Patrick Henry, SDSU, Lewis Middle School and Hearst Elementary, contributions to Eagle Scout candidates and Gold award for Girl Scouts. The Club is proud to have been an Allied Gardens Little League sponsor since 1967.
Your support of the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot is what makes all of these things, and more, possible each year and we do thank you for you support of our community and Kiwanis!
