Jewish Family Service and San Diego Food Bank Present Run for the Hungry
Thanksgiving Day Run for the Hungry

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) -  Jewish Family Service and the San Diego Food Bank have teamed this year for the Thanksgiving Day Run for the Hungry. The 10K/5K/ (3.1 mile/6.2 mile) run/walk takes place on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at Petco Park (13th & Imperial) and makes its way through San Diego's historic Gaslamp District and East Village. The 10K run begins at 7:15am; the 5K run/walk starts at 8:15am. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the hungry in San Diego County through the Foodmobile, a program of Jewish Family Service of San Diego, and the San Diego Food Bank.

According to San Diego Food Bank Board President Stephen P. Cushman, "The San Diego Food Bank is feeding more people than ever before. Last year the Food Bank was feeding 200,000 people per month. This year we are feeding 304,000 people per month. Proceeds from this year's run will be critical for the Food Bank to meet the increased demand from families affected by the down economy."

Cushman, an avid runner who will be leading the Food Bank's running team, added "The 5K & 10K is a fun, scenic run. It is a great way to start Thanksgiving Day, and it finishes with plenty of time for runners to return home and prepare Thanksgiving dinner."

Jill Borg Spitzer, CEO of Jewish Family Service, added, "More than 480,000 people in San Diego County face hunger every day. Many are elderly, homebound and isolated. Our Foodmobile program delivers hot, nutritious meals to people in need who can't access other nutritional services and depend on our daily meal delivery. Together, with the San Diego Food Bank, Run for the Hungry helps bring the issue of hunger to the forefront."

Approximately 4,500 participants are expected to run and walk in this event.  To register online for this event please visit www.kathyloperevents.com/hungry.  For additional information or to register by phone, call (619) 298-7400.
