Del Cerro Action Council News - Sept 2009

The next Del Cerro Action Council meeting will be Thursday, October 22, 7 pm at Temple Emanu-El.  Lt. Bernie Colon and Community Relations Officer Christina Burhans are scheduled to update us on neighborhood crime issues and the importance of establishing Neighborhood Watch programs in each and every neighborhood.

To quote Police Lieutenant Bernie Colon, "you are our best eyes and ears for what is happening in your neighborhood." We will also have a presentation by the Lake Murray Playground Committee regarding their plans to refurbish the playground at the Lake Murray Community Park.  This is an outstanding community driven project.

The Lake Murray Kiwanis Club delivered their annual American flag "Thank You" cake to the Del Cerro Fire Station on 9/11.  Each year the club delivers cakes to the fire stations and police divisions serving our community.  It is a small token of appreciation for the men and women who put their lives on the line for us each and every day.  Periodically you will see one of the four person crews from the Del Cerro Fire Station at Windmill Farms or Albertson's.  Take a minute, say hello and thank them for what they do.

Children are back at school and soccer season is underway.  This means pedestrian safety needs to be on the top of our minds.  More parents and children are crossing the streets between 7-8am and between 2-3pm.  With soccer season well underway, watch out for that stray soccer ball bouncing into the street and/or a child darting out for a ball or running across the street to or from a car.

Do not hesitate to let us know your concerns and comments for Del Cerro. My email address is jwilson2@cox.net.   Michael McSweeney had some concerns regarding the maintenance adjacent to the playground area at the Princess Del Cerro Park.  A meeting was set up with Councilmember Marti Emerald and Debra Jones our new Area Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.  Debra is already moving forward to resolve the issues.

Patrick Henry High has a great many sports activities for all of us to enjoy this fall.  Check out their website for a calendar of sporting events including Football, Girls Volley Ball and Tennis, and Cross Country:    http://henry.sandi.net/athletic_calendar.php

Thanks to Mark Rawlins, the updated Del Cerro Action Council website is up and running at www.delcerrocommunity.com.
If you have any historical information on Del Cerro please let us know. We would like to add some historical information on our community to the website.
