(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The Welk Resorts Theatre presents the Off-Broadway hit "Altar Boyz," playing July 31 through September 14. Winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, "Altar Boyz" is a foot-stomping, rafter-raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour.
The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham. With their tight harmonies and spectacular choreography, the Altar Boyz delight audiences as they sing their signature hits such as "Rhythm In Me," "The Calling," and "I Believe." "Altar Boyz" satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, like 'N Sync, the popularity of Christian-themed music and contemporary American culture. Danny Calvert, Marcus Collins, Brian Gilgor, Erik McEwen and Adam Zelasko star as the Altar Boyz in the Welk cast. Steve Limones and Jeff Parsons are the understudies.
Nick DeGruccio serves as the Director for "Altar Boyz," having previously directed two other Welk productions, "My Way" and "I Left My Heart." Danny Calvert choreographs the show.
Ticket prices for "Altar Boyz" range from $44 to $47 for performance only and $58 to $63 to include a pre-show buffet at the Welk Resort's Canyon Grille Restaurant. Matinee performances are on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1:45pm. Evening performances are on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 8:00pm.
