(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The upcoming July 27th Allied Gardens Community Council (AGCC) Town Hall Meeting will feature Dan Monroe, Grantville Master Plan Project Manager for the City of San Diego. Assemblyman Marty Block was scheduled, but issues regarding California's budget crisis forced him to reschedule for our September meeting.

Dan Monroe graciously accepted our invitation to speak in July on the progress of the Grantville Redevelopment Project and the issues that are currently confronting the process. Issues such as access to park space for future or present residents, the various scenarios for growth and development, traffic and parking needs, and proposed building heights within tentative redevelopment projects will be discussed. The meeting will be held at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 5106 Zion Avenue at 7:00 p.m.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) -San Diego City Attorney Jan Goldsmith was the main speaker for the May 25th Allied Gardens Community Council Town Hall Meeting. We were very lucky to have Mr. Goldsmith, as he had just returned from a trip to Philadelphia where discussions on the city budgets for both San Diego and Philadelphia were of primary interest. Mr. Goldsmith commented that Philadelphia has a similar situation regarding budget deficits, causing their city council to approve a $300 charge on waste collection and an increase in city taxes.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - SpringFest 2010 is finally here! Starting Friday, May 7 through Saturday, May 8, the invitation goes out not only to Allied Gardens residents, but the whole Navajo neighborhood. This event is a wonderful way to help school programs, various non-profit groups and the businesses in our area. It promotes an aura of goodwill, fun, and friendship not only for the people who come to SpringFest, but also those in the community whose dedication and hard work make this event happen.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The agenda for the Town Hall Meeting on January 26th was quite full.   AGCC's annual   election was held.    The Directors re-elected for another term were: Sherry Kelly, Charles Little, Terri Lattman, and Paula Price.  Anne Lee, a Director for many years, did not seek re-election.  She has chosen to take some time off from AGCC and her duties as Town Hall Chair and Treasurer.  She did a wonderful job acquiring speakers and managing the treasure's responsibilities.   All of us on the Board are extremely grateful for her hard work and we wish her the very best with all her future plans.

All of the subscriptions and ads to our Newsletter, as well as donations, provide the only source of revenue by which our Council is able to fund special projects in our community, such as the Holiday Festival and maintenance of the Jacaranda Bowl. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to attend our Town Hall Meetings for 2010. These meetings are meant to provide a forum for the community, where issues concerning the quality of life and land use for Allied Gardens and Grantville residents can be openly discussed. Our presenters are community members, city employees, project developers or elected officials; who speak on varying topics ranging from health issues to redevelopment concerns.
