Builders Club Installed At Lewis Middle School

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The Lewis Middle School Builder's Club, held its annual installation party at Filippi's Pizza Grotto on Thursday, June 17th honoring their outgoing president, Ellen Brown, and welcoming new president for the 2010-11 school year, Briana Pinto.

Other officers inducted at the well-attended Pizza Party and installation included Vice President, Kellie Imlay, Secretary Sarah Sawyer, and Treasurer, Rachel Schmeltzer.

Alumni and current Lewis families will enjoy appetizers, desserts and beverages provided by our local favorite restaurants such as San Diego Desserts, The Trails, Fiji Yogurt, San Diego Brewing Co., Pho Express, Rubio's and KnB Wine Cellars. Then dance all night to the sounds of our band Bottomline.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - Lewis Middle School is one of four middle schools (out of 33 within the San Diego Unified School District) that made all annual yearly targets and took one giant step out of program improvement. We made 31 out of 31 targets. If we make targets again this year, we will be completely out of "program improvement" status and be able to exit the federally mandated No Child Left Behind Act.

That's what sixth-grade students at Lewis Middle School were asking on November 16 when local recording artists "Josh & JB" delivered a music-filled message about healthy choices. The mini-rock concert was courtesy of brothers Josh and JB Welch, stars of the television show, "Josh & JB in the Industry" which airs in 27 countries.

Lockheed Martin's Women in Engineering Day Inspires Young Women To Explore Engineering Careers
(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - Lockheed Martin introduced over 90 young women from Lewis, Longfellow, Mann, Marshall, Millenial Tech and Pershing Middle Schools to the world of engineering during the company's first annual "Women in Engineering Day" event at its San Diego facility. The event promoted the fields of math, science and engineering to young women with high potential and interest in these areas. The goal was to inspire and help teach students translate their interests in math and science into advanced technology careers. The students explored different engineering disciplines through hands-on activities, panel discussions, participated in a team-oriented project and had lunch with Lockheed Martin engineers to discuss classes, colleges and their experience.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - Del Cerro resident, Katie O'Nell's photographs were recently selected for the "Through the Lens" children's exhibit at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Her photo of her neighbor's pool (as she fell off the chair looking over his fence!) was among her three color shots featured. Katie is a seventh grader at Lewis Middle School who enjoys reading, piano, filmmaking and soccer. Her work will be on exhibit until January.
