hope you joined us at the Lake Murray July 4th Music Fest and Fireworks

San Carlos Pop Warner Football, Cheer Season Set To Kick Off

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - Under the direction of Cynthia Wright our new president, 2010 should prove to be an exciting year.

The sign-ups have gone extremely well and have been a huge success to date. Therefore, we have added a second Mitey Mite team and have five full levels of Pop Warner teams as well as cheer teams. Although there are a lot of returning players, we still have room for new players. But don’t delay, the teams are filling up rather quickly and you don’t want to miss out. Pop Warner is open to youth ages 5 to 15.
San Carlos Area Council News

By John F. Pilch, President
(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The next meeting of the Area
Council is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7tat the San Carlos Branch
Library at 7:00pm. We will have presentations about two projects in San
Carlos and will vote on each. One is the proposed demolition of the
Valero gas station at the corner of Jackson Drive and Navajo Road. The
applicant plans to replace it with a new station with four fuel
dispensers, a car wash and a convenience store. We don't know if alcohol
sales will be sought for the location. The Development Services Dept.
of the City is currently reviewing the project, so more information
should be available prior to or at the April 7th meeting. We would like
input from residents about this proposed change for the property,
especially the car wash and a convenience store, with the possibility of
alcohol sales.

San Carlos Area Council News

By John F. Pilch, President

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - Due to the publishing schedule
for the Mission Times Courier, the March 3rd meeting of the San Carlos
Area Council (SCAC) will have already taken place by the time you read
this article. Our guest speaker was Professor Pat Abbott, an expert on
natural disasters, a Professor Emeritus at San Diego State University,
an author and a resident of San Carlos.

Dr. Abbott is the person sought
out by the local media whenever a major earthquake occurs, locally or
elsewhere. He provided the audience with a wealth of information about
the geology of San Diego, from seismic faults to the potential for a
tsunami striking the San Diego shoreline. Professor Abbott obtained a
Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin and wrote
Natural Disasters, which was published by McGraw-Hill. He also spoke
about his recent trip to Antarctica (not his first) and responded to the
many questions from the audience. We thank Professor Abbott for taking
the time from his busy schedule to address the SCAC members and
residents of the Navajo Area.

San Carlos Area Council News

By John F. Pilch, President
(Mission
Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - The San Carlos Area Council (SCAC) will
meet Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the San Carlos Library at 7pm. We
will have two presentations, following reports from representatives of
our elected officials and the San Diego Police Department. The first is a
short overview from the Lake Murray Community Park Playground Project
Committee. This is an ad-hoc group of residents who are working with the
City to replace what remains of the playground equipment in the park.
I’m pleased to be a member of this group, which is in the initial phase
of moving this long-needed project forward. A conceptual drawing of the
new playground and photos of the proposed equipment may be included in
the presentation. Please attend if you are interested in this project,
especially if you have children who use or will use the playground in
our community park on Murray Park Drive, where the July 4th Music Fest
is held.

San Carlos Area Council News - December 2008

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - Due to the refurbishing of the
San Carlos Branch Library for the entire month of January 2009, the San
Carlos Area Council (SCAC) Executive Committee has decided to not hold
a meeting on January 4, 2009. According to library sources, the
facility is to be closed on December 25th, with a scheduled re-opening
date of Monday, February 2, 2009. During that time, the library will
be painted and have new carpeting installed. As a result, the next SCAC
meeting will be held on February 4, 2009 at 7:00pm. We will continue
our efforts to schedule our new councilmember, Marti Emerald, as the
guest speaker.
