Flower Baskets Enhance Local Streetscape

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - The hanging flower baskets, a beautification project that has been in progress since 2008, has come into completion in 2010. In March of 2008, the College Area Business Improvement District's (BID) Design Committee brainstormed projects they could implement to improve the appearance of the District. The idea that received the most attention was that of installing hanging flower baskets throughout the District.
The goal was to install 22 hanging baskets in a pilot area of the Enhanced Maintenance Assessment District EMAD): College Ave. and El Cajon Blvd intersection.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - When she began her education at San Diego State, Stephanie Pena was an undeclared student, unsure of the field she wanted to pursue. It wasn't until she saw a flier for a psychology research lab focusing on bullying that she found her calling.

"In elementary, middle and high school, I was a victim of bullying and saw many of the disabled children that I worked with suffer from bullying," said Pena, who attended Bonita Vista High School. "Because of that, I always had the drive to bring awareness to this topic."

Summer Is A Great Time To Sharpen Math Skills

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, CA) - During the summer, students typically receive reading lists from school in order for them to keep up and improve their reading skills. It�s very rare, however, for a student to receive summer math exercises to help keep their mathematical skills sharp. A study from the Center for Summer Learning at John Hopkins University revealed that, "on average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months" (Cooper, 1996). Combining this daunting statistic with the fact that many students already struggle with math, inevitably leads to a snowball effect that causes students to become further behind in grade level competency and even more frustrated with math each year.

(Mission Times Courier, San Diego, Ca) - The San Diego State women�s basketball team rallied from a nine-point deficit for the second time in as many games, edging visiting Wake Forest, 63-62, on Monday evening at Viejas Arena. With the victory, the Aztecs, improved to 7-4 overall, while the Demon Deacons dropped to 8-4 on the year. SDSU will take on Auburn, which defeated Valparaiso 51-50, in the championship game of the fifth annual San Diego Surf �N Slam Classic on Wednesday.
